Charles Sweeny Cup - Sports Personality of the Year
Nominated by: Local Committees and National Organisers
Selected by: LR Leisure Principal Officers
An award for an individual who has demonstrated sporting skill or expertise in the last 12 months.
Introduced in 1967
The trophy is named after Sir Charles Joseph Sweeney who spent his entire working life at the Land Registry (like many of us!) and who in 1964 was awarded an OBE following his earlier MBE.
He was cited in that honour as Charles Joseph Sweeney Esq, MBE, Chief Superintendent, Plans Branch, Land Registry.
So he was one of the original Plannies!
Nominees:
Angie Symons (Plymouth)
- Having played a lot of football in the past, Angie recently put on her boots again for LR Leisure.
- She's demonstrated exceptional skill, sportsmanship and commitment.
- Angie is an advocate for the growth and success of women's football locally and nationally.
- Angie embodies the true spirit of women's football, at any age, and her impact extends far beyond the pitch.
Mike Fletcher (Plymouth)
- Mike maintained his 1st position in the CSSC Diving Championships 2024.
- He gains hundreds of points for LR Leisure within the CSSC Swimming competition.

- Tom is nominated for his achievements in football.
- He has been ever present in the LR Leisure national team and the Gloucester team at the Pryer Trophy.
- His name is the only one on the golden boot trophy having won it 4 years running. Swansea won the Pryer Trophy this year, but Tom still won golden boot.
